By considering the needs within our own community, the Davis Chapter has elected to support the following philanthropies:
AYSO VIP: The American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Very Important Player (VIP) program provides a quality soccer experience for children and adults whose physical or mental disabilities prevent them from successful participation on mainstream teams. NCL Davis members serve as “buddies” to help, encourage, and befriend individuals with disabilities.
Citizens Who Care serves the elderly and their family caregivers in Yolo County through its offices located in Davis and Woodland. NCL Davis members sit with elderly participants, visit, talk or play games, providing respite care for their caregivers.
Community Harvest of Davis: We harvest in Davis and donate fruit to Davis agencies, primarily STEAC (Short Term Emergency Aid Committee), with any excess going to the Food Bank of Yolo County and to local churches. Our mission is to provide food for people who need it, promote sustainable use of urban resources, and contribute to a stronger community.
Davis Community Meals: NCL Davis members assist with preparing meals for low-income and homeless individuals and families.
Davis Musical Theater Company: California’s longest-running, year-round, amateur musical theater company; DMTC produces 11 musicals each year. NCL Davis members provide ushering services for this no-profit.
Davis Schools Foundation is the nonprofit foundation wholly focused on fundraising to enhance educational excellence for every student in the Davis Joint Unified School District.
Friends of the Yolo Crisis Nursery supports the mission to provide a safe, temporary home for children up to age 5 during times of extreme family crisis, when young family members are most vulnerable to abuse and neglect. NCL Davis members donate time to support their major fund raising event of the year as well as coordinate collection drives.
North Bay Stand Down assists homeless and/or at-risk veterans, focusing on their motto of “A Hand Up instead of a Hand Out”. NCL Davis members help with set up for their Operation Stand Down events.
Pence Gallery: The mission of the Pence Gallery is to serve the community through offering high caliber art exhibits and educational programs for visitors of all ages. NCL Davis members help the Pence Gallery with their arts and crafts table at the 2nd Friday ArtAbout Davis community events and other activities.
Project Linus is an organization that hand makes blankets for critically ill children.
Putah Creek Council: At the nursery, we do a variety of tasks including propagating, potting up, seeding, weeding, trimming, organizing, watering, and otherwise caring for native plants that will be used on habitat improvement projects. Some volunteering activities take place at Putah Creek.
Special Olympics of Northern California provides athletic opportunities to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, instilling the confidence they need to succeed in life. NCL Davis members help with events such as track and field, bowling and basketball.
St. John’s Program for Real Change is for the woman who wants to make the leap. Who will fight the pervasive influence of homelessness, poverty, and abuse. Who will make an empowered decision to rise up and become a productive community member. Who understands, unequivocally, that the decision to create a better life – for herself and for her family – rests entirely on her. NCL Davis members support these women by assisting with meal preparations, making and delivering sandwiches, and helping sort donations brought to the shelter.
Team Davis is an all volunteer non-profit organization established to help enrich the lives of children and adults with developmental, cognitive and/or physical disabilities living in or close to Davis. Team Davis sponsors athletic, social, cultural and recreational activities that help build physical skills, a sense of camaraderie, and a more fully integrated connection with the Davis community for our participants and their families and support staff. We serve as the Davis area’s Special Olympics team. NCL Davis members help with activities including swimming, softball and golf.
T.R.O.T.R. (Therapeutic Riding and Off-Track Rehabilitation) is a nonprofit, 100% volunteer-based organization that specializes in therapeutic riding, as well as taking former racehorses and helping them find new, loving forever homes. NCL Davis members help with animal care and lessons for therapeutic riding.
The UC Davis MIND Institute (Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders) is a collaborative international research center, committed to the awareness, understanding, prevention, care, and cures of neurodevelopmental disorders. NCL Davis provides support for several MIND Institute events throughout the year.
